The Scottish Hills Sea Lions have a long standing history of swimming in Cary! The swim team was started in 1978 by Roger Bieberich and was coached by John Castranio. The team consisted of 58 kids. The first ever Scottish Hills swim meet was held on August 31, 1978.
Scottish Hills joined the Tarheel Swimming Association in 1978, with an official season of 0-7, but a strong showing of Sea Lion Spirit. Over the past 40+ years, the Scottish Hills Sea Lions continue to embody the same Sea Lion Spirit, rallying to have teams both in 1995 when a fire destroyed the clubhouse and facilities of the pool and in 2020 during the COVID 19 pandemic. The team now has over 200 swimmers.
The Sea Lions are proud hosts of the Cary City Swim Meet every other year.
Most recently, the Sea Lions were Division Champs in 2018, 2019, and 2023.
